Hi, I'm Jan-Steven Merson
A passionate street photographer and travel enthusiast originally from Brooklyn, NY. After 20 + years as a landscape photographer, I discovered the excitement of street photography during a weeklong adventure in London with a friend of mine that lives there.
That experience changed everything. Today I travel the world capturing candid, unscripted moments while teaching students how to see and photograph everyday life with confidence.
Photography is about capturing one moment in time and turning it into lasting art. Whether it's the energy of city streets or the beauty of a landscape, my goal is to share that journey with every student.

I took a workshop with Jan back in July, down at the HB pier. I'm pretty new to photography and have been trying to learn by myself via YouTube videos and anything else I can find online. I was kind of hitting a wall and struggling a bit on my own to progress and just wasn't really happy with my pictures, or with my understanding of setting my camera correctly. A friend of mine had done a class with Jan and recommended him. After about 2 hours working with Jan I finally felt like I had the basics down that I'd been struggling with. I HIGHLY recommend taking one of Jan's workshops. Based on that one session, I plan on booking another one with Jan in the next month or so, possibly more.
Oh,,, if anyone is wondering, I'm running the Sony Alpha 7 IV with the FE 24-70MM f/2.8 GM II lens.
